Ethiopia: Sidama, Ayla Bombe, Natural, Grade 1- Filter Roast
Testi Ayla Washing Station was established in 2010 and is part of the Testi group since 2016. It now serves around 375 smallholder farmers in the village of Bombe, Sidama. The farmers, who typically own about 2.5 hectares each, grow local coffee varieties such as Mikicho and Setami.
In Ethiopia, smallholders typically grow coffee alongside other crops on small plots. Most smallholders will deliver their coffee cherries to a nearby washing station or central processing unit, where the coffee will be sorted, weighed, and paid for. The coffee is then processed, usually washed or natural, by the washing station and dried on raised beds.
There are different Grades in Ethiopia to establish the quality of the coffee, depending on visual inspection of defects and cup quality. This particular coffee, coming from the Ayla Bombe Washing Station is classified Grade 1 and therefore considered as the highest quality coffee.
